About

The Life In Every Moment Campaign

Join McNally House on an exciting new adventure.

Inspired by their personal experience with end-of-life care and by their friends Pat and Nancy McNally, Kathy and Blair McKeil have come forward with a $1-million donation to get the ball rolling in a campaign that will bring palliative care services to the next level.

Their lead gift will help fund the creation of McNally’s new Day Hospice Centre. The Centre will allow added services to be extended to people diagnosed with a life-limiting illness who are not imminently dying but now see the end of their life before them.

The Life in Every Moment Campaign aims to raise $16.5 million to elevate end-of-life care in West Niagara. A portion of the total will cover the costs of converting the existing residential hospice to an all-new Day Hospice Centre which will provide care and support to people and their loved ones from the day of receiving a life-limiting diagnosis.

The Campaign will also fund a new 10-bed Residential Hospice. The addition of 4 beds will increase our residential care spaces by almost 70%, substantially growing our capacity to care for people in the final stages of life.

Ensuring the highest level of quality care, McNally House will maintain its innovative partnership with West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, sharing psycho-spiritual and bereavement services between the two organizations and extending to the community. Both programs are strengthened by the leadership of Dr. Denise Marshall, widely regarded as an expert and innovator in palliative care.

The McNally House Hospice Day Centre

Extending the breadth and reach of our care

The value of programs to support community members with a life-limiting illness and their loved ones is clear. Each year, hundreds of people of all ages benefit from our existing psycho-spiritual and bereavement support programs as well as our community programs. There is so much more we could offer if not for our current space constraints.

The Life in Every Moment Campaign will give us the room we need to grow these vital supports.

McNally’s new Day Hospice Centre will provide a one-stop, multi-faceted, inter-disciplinary coordinated approach to care with the needs of the patient and their family in the forefront. The centre will provide a space for people living through similar experiences to gather and to participate in the programs that help them manage their specific needs. It will also afford a much-needed day of respite for families caring for their loved one.

When comparing current and envisioned programs, the added care our community will receive becomes clear.

Message from Our Executive Director

Pamela Blackwood invites you to promote Life in Every Moment…

At McNally House, we see the end-of-life journey as a deeply meaningful time – a period when a person needs comfort and support more than ever. Our staff and volunteers are honoured to walk alongside those who need our care, not only providing gold-standard medical attention, but doing everything possible to wrap our residents and their families in a cocoon of peace, love and care.

The McNally House Day Hospice Centre will allow us to offer many more supports to members of our community, right from the time of receiving their life-limiting diagnosis and long before they require residential hospice care. You can help us do that by supporting the Life in Every Moment Campaign.”

Thank You

To our honourary patrons

Dr. Denise Marshall
Honourary Patron, Co-founder, Inaugural Board Chair and Medical Director of McNally House

"

I’ve been a Palliative Care physician for over 31 years.  The vision towards providing a new setting of care for people who were landing in our local hospital at end of life when this was not their wish, was something I observed since establishing the Niagara West Palliative Care team here in 1997.  I’ve been kept busy helping that vision of a new setting of care come to fruition. And then, after years of our citizens meeting on planning, there was all the work of the first many years of initial operation of a new entity like McNally that kept me busy and fully engaged!

These days, what keeps me engaged is participating in the knowledge translation of it all.  We are helping ‘upskill’ and improve the death literacy of our society through the volunteers and the community engagement that happens via McNally House.  We are growing palliative care capacity amongst our medical, nursing and other staff and we are just now starting to realize that the next step is not just community engagement but true community development.  All of the possibilities around this continued to keep me engaged!

Ken Pettigrew
Honourary Patron and Inaugural Executive Director of McNally House

"

I was introduced to McNally House when it was still a ‘twinkle in the eye’ of my good friend Denise Marshall.  What began as a willingness to contribute something worthwhile to my community became an unforgettable two-year period in which I became fully immersed in the construction project.

Starting out, I had a basic knowledge around hospice care but didn’t fully appreciate the magnitude of what we were creating.  It was when residents began arriving that I saw how profoundly lives could be touched.  I never failed to be amazed by the infinite care and compassion extended to people living out their final days and the lengths that staff would go to make the experience of dying as gentle and good as possible.

The tearful hugs of grateful family members that I still encounter on occasion remind me of what McNally House means to people.  I never thought I would be part of something so fulfilling again in my life.  Needless to say, championing the Life in Every Moment Campaign is an opportunity I am thrilled to embrace.”

Honourary Patron and Co-Founder

"

When I was approached by Denise Marshall to help plot a course to bring a hospice residence to Niagara West in 2005, I agreed without hesitation.  From my 8+ years serving as the Member of Parliament representing the people of our area, I was very familiar with Dr. Marshall’s outstanding credentials in palliative care medicine.  Her boundless commitment was an inspiration to all of us on board in those early stages.

It’s been incredibly rewarding to have been part of McNally House.  What our communities accomplished together touches lives in a way that is so very personal and intimate . . . ‘being there’ for people in their most desperate hours of need.  And now, on the cusp of McNally’s next chapter, I’m proud and excited to see what the future holds.

Carole Menzies
Honourary Patron and Co-Founder

"

We cannot recognize the founding contributors to McNally House without posthumously paying tribute to Carole Menzies’ immeasurable dedication as fundraising chair and long-term board member.  Her influence will be carried forward as a guiding light to our new campaign.
