McNally House Hospice Hosts Ground Breaking Ceremony

On June 14th, McNally House Hospice marked an important step in our journey to build an all-new 10-bed hospice residence and to convert the current McNally House into a much-needed Day Hospice. This ceremony brought together, community supporters, family members, donors, volunteers and staff to celebrate the work that has been done and to raise awareness of the work still to be completed.

The agenda started with Campaign Co-Chairs Murray Bain and Debbie Zimmerman enthusiastically announcing, “We’re Breaking Ground!”

Executive Director, Pamela Blackwood shared what this expansion will mean for our community:

* An increase of 70% to our hospice residence capacity
* Fill the gap in service from time of diagnosis until Hospice Residence is needed with Day Hospice Programming
* Expand bereavement programs as well as new innovative support groups
* Increase support for caregivers in our community and provide more opportunities for respite, peer-to-peer support and access to resources.

Messages of congratulations and support were brought from provincial, regional and municipal governments who collectively have contributed $2,285,000 to the expansion of McNally House.
“There is more work to do, more funds to raise, but we are on the home stretch. Beginning a campaign just before the pandemic and in its aftermath with high interest rates and inflation has been a challenge. But the community is rising to the challenge. The extraordinary generosity of our donors and our community support has brought us to this moment – it’s time to build!” said Murray Bain.
